The reason you are not comfortable is because you are not prepared! You don’t know how much the car you want is worth! If you go in like that, of course they’re going to rip you off. I suggest you go to Edmunds.com. They’ll give you the retail price for that model, plus the price the dealer pays to get it from the manufacturer. Good stuff to know! Go to Honda website and look to see if they have any rebates on that car. Rememember the 2010 models are coming out within 2 months, so they really are looking to move those 2009’s..which means good discounts for you!

Do your research, go to the dealer, and see what happens. Tell them to put the best price on the table, if you don’t like it, you leave!!

tell them what you want and how much your willing to pay for it and when they start rattling off monthly payments stare them in the eye and say how much it it to drive off the lot ?
you may not get a Honda
but at least you’ll have a shirt left and won’t get fleeced

Tips on relationship building from Simon Edhouse

If you find a car you like that is currently being promoted with manufacturer-sponsored incentives and rebates, these are nearly always good deals. The catch is that you must want the particular style/model being promoted and agree to the down payment. Here’s a web site that lists most of the current promotions:

The best thing is to go to a website, such as edmunds.com or msn autos and see what 2009 Civic’s are selling for in your area. Rather than negotiating, simply make an offer to purchase. Something like “I will buy this car right now if you reduce the price to $X”. It’s the best way to negotiate because you will always get the best price when you are ready to actually buy the car. Good luck and I hope this helps.
